AT&T claims it has become the first major U.S. mobile carrier to provide a cryptocurrency payment option to customers.

The company announced on Thursday that its subsidiary, AT&T Communications has partnered with major cryptocurrency payment processor BitPay in order to process crypto payments.

“We have customers who use cryptocurrency, and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer,” Kevin McDorman, vice president, AT&T Communications Finance Business Operations, was quoted as saying in the announcement.

Revenues of the company, which is made up of three divisions (AT&T Business, Mobility & Entertainment, and Technology & Operations,) stood at USD 170 billion in 2018.

BitPay supports settlement in 8 currencies and direct bank deposit in 38 countries. Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Gemini Dollar, USD Coin, and Paxos Standard Token settlements are supported in 233 countries.

BitPay collects and deposits all payments processed from the previous business day directly to a bank account or cryptocurrency wallet, according to the website of the company. AT&T did not specify its preferences.
